Oklahoma 8th-grader finds 56% of wild plants show antibacterial activity

In an inspiring project, eighth-grader Locklyn Raye Ward from Oklahoma explored the antibacterial capabilities of wild plants. Analyzing 24 plants sourced from her family’s farm, she found that 56 percent demonstrated antibacterial effects, but none were as potent as commercial antibiotics. Interestingly, seven native plants showcased promising antibiotic properties, prompting Locklyn to highlight the importance of wild plants while addressing the significant issue of antibiotic overuse.
