The Gulf is in turmoil. Saudi Arabia, which for decades has dominated the region, using its oil wealth to command the attention and often obeisance of half the world, is tottering on its foundations. Civilians are being killed, US personnel evacuated. Its principal airports are intermittently closed by Houthi missiles. The rich are taking flight as best they can, and overseas pilgrims are wary about visiting.
