Tamil Nadu private bus operators to strike for 24 hours over fares, women’s free travel

Private bus operators in Tamil Nadu, excluding Chennai, Madurai, Nagercoil and Udhagamandalam, will observe a 24-hour token strike from September 29 midnight. The operators are seeking a fare revision after seven years without an increase and want compensation for carrying women under the state’s free travel scheme, citing rising diesel and spare-parts costs and mounting financial losses.
