Georgia To Increase Electricity Production 2.5 Times by 2036

Georgia (formerly a republic of the Soviet Union) aims to increase electricity production 2.5 times by 2036 to achieve full energy independence. Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze and Economy Minister Mariam Kvirivishvili announced the strategy during Energy Workers' Day events, stating the country intends to become a regional hub linking the Caspian region, the Black Sea, and Europe. According to Kvirivishvili, three hydroelectric power plants (HPPs) and one wind farm were completed in 2026. The government plans to launch another HPP, two wind farms, and three solar plants by the end of the year, adding over 300 MW of renewable capacity to the system. In 2027, 12 additional facilities with a total capacity exceeding 70 MW are expected to enter service, requiring approximately $100 million in investment.
