Kazakhstan's River Corridors to China Stall as Beijing Withholds Response

Kazakhstan is attempting to pivot its logistics toward river transport to create new corridors to China and Russia, but the strategy remains theoretical. The Ministry of Transport has admitted that key projects are on hold pending a response from Beijing. The Proposed Corridors The government is targeting two primary waterways to diversify its transit routes: The Irtysh River: A proposed multimodal route linking Russia, Kazakhstan, and China. The Ili River: A direct water link between Kazakhstan and China. The Infrastructure Gap While Kazakhstan has signaled its intent by sending formal requests to the Ministry of Transport of the People's Republic of China, the project lacks a foundation.
