Diesel Is Coming for Trucking, Your Home — and the Midterms

US energy politics usually begin and end with gasoline prices. Those are at a seasonal record, but even $4.44 a gallon pales against diesel, now at an all-time high of $6.40. Most drivers’ eyes skim over that bit of the price sign — it’s called a gas station, after all — but America can’t afford to look away. Diesel isn’t just an immediate price (and politics) problem; it’s building up vulnerabilities for the US on several fronts that will play out through winter and into 2027.
