Offshore wind farms may be quietly stealing rain from Europe's coasts; study says

A new study by Germany's Helmholtz-Zentrum Hereon suggests that very large offshore wind farm clusters in the North Sea and Baltic Sea could shift rainfall away from Europe's coasts. Turbines slow the wind and stir the lower atmosphere, causing more rain over the sea and less over land. Simulations show coastal rainfall in Denmark, Germany, the Netherlands and the UK could fall by up to 15% under an extreme expansion scenario.
