First Container Ship Arrives at Murmansk Seaport via Northern Sea Route from China

The Murmansk Commercial Sea Port (MMTP) has received its first container ship from the New-New Shipping Line traveling from China via the Northern Sea Route. The vessel delivered 502 containers of automotive components. Following the discharge of imports, the ship is scheduled to load 26,400 tons of potash fertilizers from Central Russia for shipment to Southeast Asian markets. This pilot voyage serves to test the logistics chain for both Chinese imports and Russian fertilizer exports. The operation was made possible by the establishment of a specialized terminal in 2025, developed with support from the Port Alliance management company. To accommodate the vessel, MMTP modified its technological processes and infrastructure to ensure that the handling of this cargo batch did not disrupt existing port operations.
