Rosatom Transitions to Serial Assembly of Nuclear Power Plants

Rosatom is shifting toward the serial assembly of nuclear power units to expand its domestic capacity and international market presence. According to CEO Alexey Likhachev during a meeting with President Vladimir Putin, the state corporation is currently constructing 28 power units across nine countries: Belarus, Uzbekistan, India, China, Turkey, Egypt, Iran, Bangladesh, and Hungary. Additionally, agreements are in place for another 17 units in Vietnam, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Myanmar, Kyrgyzstan, and Ethiopia. The company is negotiating with 15 states regarding approximately 50 new atomic projects. A key strategic objective is the completion of the Tianwan NPP in China; upon the commissioning of its eight blocks, it is expected to become the world's most powerful nuclear power plant. Most international projects are funded via Russian state loans. These are recovered through currency revenue from electricity sales—using the Build-Own-Operate (BOT) model, as seen in Turkey—or through direct payments for maintenance services.
