Yellowed Tulle Curtains: How to Restore Their Original Whiteness Without Damage

White tulle curtains often lose their brightness due to ultraviolet exposure, household dust, and kitchen vapors. While industrial bleaches are commonly used, these aggressive chemicals can thin delicate fabrics and destroy pigment structures, often masking yellowing rather than removing the underlying contamination. To restore the white color without damaging the fibers, it is necessary to first remove base dust and grime through a preliminary wash. Only after the fabric is clean should color-correcting agents be applied. Steps Prepare the base wash. Clean the tulle of all visible dust and dirt before applying whitening treatments. Select a whitening agent. Choose one of the following methods based on the desired effect: for a gentle refresh, dissolve one tablespoon of baking soda in water and soak the fabric for a few hours; for a bright white effect using zelyonka (brilliant green), dissolve 5 tablespoons of salt in 5 liters of water, add 5 drops of filtered zelyonka, and soak for no more than 5 minutes; for a blue-white tone using sinka (bluing agent), dissolve half a teaspoon of the agent in water, let it sit, filter through dense cloth, and soak the fabric for no more than one minute. Rinse the fabric. Thoroughly rinse the tulle in clean water to remove all traces of the agent. Strict timing is critical when using color-correcting agents. Exceeding the 5-minute limit for zelyonka or the 1-minute limit for sinka can leave the fabric with an unwanted green or blue tint. Additionally, failing to filter the agents through a cloth can result in streaks or spots on the material.
