Russia's Tech Fee: Electronics Prices Set to Rise Sharply Next Year

Russia will introduce a mandatory "technological fee" for electronics manufacturers and importers starting December 1, 2026. The measure aims to fund domestic microelectronics projects and create competitive advantages for products manufactured within the Russian Federation, including those by foreign companies with local production sites. According to Ismail Ismailov, Associate Professor of International and Public Law at the Financial University under the Government of the Russian Federation, the fee will likely lead to a gradual increase in retail prices, estimated between 1% and 2% for the end consumer. Impact by Product Category The effect of the levy on final pricing will vary depending on the cost and localization level of specific gadget categories. For high-value items like personal computers, a fee of approximately 500 rubles in the initial stage is expected to be negligible.
