Russian travel demand for Indian Ocean islands remains steady, with the Maldives continuing to strengthen its position following record numbers in 2025. This growth is supported by Aeroflot's expanded flight programs. Mauritius also maintains a strong presence as a destination for premium leisure. Maksim Lanin, tour operator: "The increase in interest toward exotic destinations is directly linked to the availability of direct flights. For instance, Air Tanzania began operating flights to Zanzibar in July, making the destination significantly more accessible for residents of Moscow." The Seychelles also reported growth—Russia became the leading source of tourists in the first half of 2026, with flight frequency to Mahe reaching two per week. Meanwhile, Sri Lanka is preparing for the winter season; Aeroflot and AZUR air are set to resume full-scale regular and charter services to compensate for the absence of direct flights during the summer.
