Global human development index reaches average value of 0.756

The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) has released the 2025 Human Development Index (HDI), reporting a global average value of 0.756, which aligns with the current level in Paraguay. The HDI is a composite metric calculated based on life expectancy, education levels, and gross national income per capita. The index operates on a scale from 0 to 1. According to the UNDP, while the indicator allows for international quality-of-life comparisons, it does not factor in internal inequality, political freedoms or environmental conditions. Regional Disparities The 2025 data shows a sharp divide between geographic regions. All European nations scored above the global average. In contrast, nearly every African country fell below the threshold, with Algeria (0.763) being the sole exception.
