Artificial intelligence’s price war has a predictable ending: Intelligence will be cheap, and soon. On CNBC’s “Squawk Box,” venture capitalist Chamath Palihapitiya estimated that a million tokens, what he calls a “barrel of intelligence,” runs anywhere from 50 cents to $50. (Tokens are small units of text that AI models process and generate.) Those differences dominate today’s conversation, but they probably won’t determine AI’s future.
